It Happened One Night is a well-known classic. I didn't realize until about fifteen minutes into the film that I'd seen it many years ago. That was fine, because I didn't recall most of the scenes. Claudette Colbert is exceptionally funny and also quite pretty. Clark Gable . . . in a way, he reminds me of Gene Kelly. All the girls love him, and even though he's a little goofy, any guy would want to be him.

Gable's fine acting range comes through in a scene where he has to scare away a guy who's going to turn Colbert's character in to the police. Gable gives no hint to the camera that he's fooling. In another film, this would have been considered a chilling moment. Colbert manages to switch from ice cold to girlish to womanly without any seeming effort.
